If you were there at last year's Sensational Cycling Saturday you may well have spotted quite a lot of parents with spanners, joyfully removing their kids' stabilisers and throwing them away! This year we're hoping to help even more young riders get moving on two wheels – and some adults too.

This time, almost half of the exhibition shed is being given over to people – young and old – who want to learn to ride a bike. This is a brilliant environment for starting off on two wheels – not only is it indoors (just in case it's rainy), but the ground is smooth, there are no obstacles or traffic, and there's an element of privacy too.

Even if you don't have a bike, you can still come and have a go – we'll have some bikes of various sizes that we can lend you to learn on, including lots of balance bikes (bikes with no pedals – the best way to get started).

It doesn't matter what stage you're at, we'd love to help you:

  • Perhaps you're an adult who's never got on a bike, or who used to cycle but have lost your confidence. Maybe you’ve decided it’s time for your child to have a go on a balance bike?
  • Or perhaps they can't get the hang of pedals, or the mere suggestion of removing the stabilisers brings on a tantrum!

The training is being provided free of charge by a team of fully qualified National Standard cycling instructors from Cycle Training Cornwall. We spend most of our time teaching 'Bikeability' in local schools, but we also have experience teaching adults to ride, and training cyclists in all levels of road safety. So come along and shed those stabilisers!
